Knowledge, Misconceptions, Marta Pires

All new pages:

Reality, unavailable alternate universes, and TV dangers

These links have all been announced here over at various times over the past year and a half, but the reality TV page has new writings. These three had not been previously all cross-linked or grouped. They all have to do with disorted reality, ideals, and wishes. The ideas here aren't so simple, but awareness of their existence is good!

Would you rather live in a stone-age village? Early 19th century sod house?

Unschool World, another sort of alternate reality

Deschooling mitosis—deschooling splits and grows

http://sandradodd.com/deschooling/
I had a page called deschooling, but it had become crowded, and when someone wrote something great, I had no great place to put it.

Now, there are several pages in a deschooling section. The new writing, by Rachel Marie, several quotes, and lots of links, are here:
From that, one can arrive at the original page, stripped down quite a bit:
http://sandradodd.com/deschooling.html
Also, to a newly created page with previously published writing by Robyn Coburn and Joyce Fetteroll:
http://sandradodd.com/deschooling/robyn.html

And from the old page, now not the main page, is one more:

Neglect, "unschool world" and mechanical music

"Cheery Neglect"—Karen Lee asked about that phrase, which she remembered from a quote but couldn't find. Others quickly helped locate it. It seemed good enough to put on its own page.

Some people want to live with and around unschoolers, rather than in the real world around them.

Mechanical Music—old, new, soothing, inspiring. Engineering, history, art.

Change, Help, Pets

New on "Thoughts on changing," by Karen James, second on the right:
http://sandradodd.com/change/

And on another change page, additions from the writings of Tam Palmer and Colleen Prieto
http://sandradodd.com/change.html

Why TWO pages called "change"? Well... sometimes I forget I have a page. So I make another one. And then I can't decide which should be "the real one." They're both good. Each links to the other. A mis-matched set!
A few updates to the Help page:

Two photos moved from a defunct lyrics game page to the pets page:

Minecraft imitates life; Daily Inspiration

A girl made a block tower, and her brothers copied it in Minecraft:

Well over 1000 snippets to make a moment better, and each leads to three more.
I missed the three year anniversary of Just Add Light and Stir, but I didn't miss keeping up with it! Others have begun to offer up their photos, and that makes it richer and bigger than ever. Go for an explore! Even if you're subscribed, there are probably some you missed or have forgotten. If you don't subscribe, it's simple and it's free:

Trivia, iPad, Life

New page on trivia, and models of the universe (click image at right, too)

An eighteen-month-old who loves an iPad...
https://sandradodd.com/screentimetoddler

First rearrangment for many years of "Considerations for Unschooling Parents."

I moved spanking from the top to the lowish right side, and moved video games up. Long ago when that page was new, spanking was a current issue and video games were not very sophisticated.  Both have changed for the better. 🙂

screentime, Spanish, freedom

Karen James, 1/3 of the way down, "If I wasn't paying attention, and if I was afraid of the time Ethan spends at the computer, I would miss all of the creativity and learning happening. Worse still, Ethan might too, because my worry would become his burden."

Pam Sorooshian's 2011 article on child-led learning is new on my site en Español, with links to the translator's blog, and the original in English on Pam's blog.

A chat transcript from May, on the topic of Freedom, is edited and ready to read at a new location for chat transcrips which Marta Pires is helping me set up.  We should be able to keep the colors on the names, from future chats (and some past)

Unschooling kids and money; conference followup, LiTTLe2013

Usually I only put something in one place on my site, but Colleen Prieto's son, Robbie, did a cool thing, and her husband, Robert, said a great thing about it, and Colleen wrote it up sweetly. It's about his allowance.
